Pilot sent to hospital after plane goes down in the Westside Road area

Parachutist hitting a Vernon house is also under investigation

A downed airplane has been found on the west side of Okanagan Lake.

At about 9 p.m., the small plane was located in the Six Mile Creek area.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria reports that the occupant of the plane was conscious and airlifted to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Emergency crews are currently converging on the west side of Okanagan Lake after receiving reports of a downed aircraft.

“We have reports but we can’t confirm them,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson, at just before 8 p.m. Monday.

“Our people our out searching with Forestry personnel.”

The search is taking place in the Six Mile Creek area off Westside Road.

Earlier in the day, a man preparing to land his parachute at the Vernon Airport went off course at about 4 p.m. and struck a house just south of the airport.

The man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
