Evidence found for PJ’s robbery
RCMP executed a search order of a residence on Nov. 17 and found the masks that had been worn during the Nov. 7 armed robbery of PJ’s Park Avenue Foods. The evidence seized has been submitted to the forensic lab in Vancouver to see if DNA can be extracted.
Three suspects were arrested in relation to the robbery, but a fourth suspect has not been located.
“We feel confident with the evidence we’ve collected that it’s going to lead to the fourth [suspect],” Corporal Devon Gerrits said.

Bootlegger caught in Klemtu
On Dec. 2, Klemtu police officers located a suspected bootlegger bringing unauthorized liquor into the dry community. Forty bottles of liquor were found concealed in soft drink cases and seized.
Briefcase snatched on Third Avenue West
An unknown male stole a briefcase out of the hands of someone walking down Third Avenue West at 7:35 p.m. on Nov. 29. RCMP located a person who matched the victim’s description exactly. The man had dumped out the contents of the briefcase before he was apprehended. Police arrested him for theft and later released him from custody on a promise to appear in court. Gerrits said police consider it a random incident.
Domestic assaults
On Nov. 28 police were called to a domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of Third Avenue West. A woman had thrown a pot of boiling water on her spouse and began physically assaulting him. She was arrested on scene for assault and was later released from custody with a court date and on protective conditions.
Police responded to reports of a domestic assault at a residence in the 1500 block of Kootenay Avenue on Dec. 2. When they arrived at 7:43 a.m. an assault was in progress. A man was arrested at the scene for breaching the terms of his probation order.
Man resists arrest after fight
Two men were fighting outside the Belmont liquor store on Third Avenue West at 12:30 a.m on Dec. 1. Both were arrested for causing a disturbance, but one was released at the scene. The other man taken into custody was for assault, causing a disturbance and resisting arrest. He was later released and will attend court for obstruction of justice.
Impaired driving CounterAttack
The RCMP have been setting up roadblocks in Prince Rupert as part of their annual CounterAttack campaign targeting impaired drivers.
On Dec. 3, RCMP found two drivers under the influence. The first driver was stopped near the SPCA exit on Highway 16 after the RCMP were called by people reporting hazardous driving. The driver refused the roadside screening test, which resulted in an automatic fail. His driver’s licence was seized, he was given a 90-day probation and his car was impounded. During his arrest, the man spat in the face of a police officer. He will appear in court for driving under the influence and for assaulting a police officer.
In the parking lot of the 7-Eleven gas station, police found an intoxicated person in their vehicle. The person was issued a 90-day driving probation after failing the roadside screening. Their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
