Plane lands safely at Kelowna International after emergency alert

The aircraft’s right side landing gear was not illuminating the green light that indicates the right wheel is fully locked.

There were some tense moments at Kelowna International Airport Monday.

At about 12:28 p.m., a commercial flight on approach to YLW advised the air traffic control tower that the indicator light for the aircraft’s right side landing gear was not illuminating the green light that indicates the right wheel is fully locked.

The airport’s aircraft rescue firefighters, the Kelowna Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance and the RCMP were on scene for the two-alarm standby.

The Northwestern Air Lease flight from Red Deer, Alta., which contained six people and 2,600 pounds, of fuel, landed at 12:40 p.m. without incident and taxied to the gate.

The aircraft will have a mechanical review before continuing to its next destination.
