Several of the largest condo developments in Langley’s history were up for consideration by Langley Township council on Monday evening.
The projects include:
• A 499 unit condo complex, in addition to 36,500 square feet of commercial and 108,000 square feet of office space on 9.5 acres at 200th Street and 84th Avenue, proposed by Vesta Properties
• A 10 acre site at 208th street and 82nd Avenue where Polygon plans to develop 589 apartment units
• A 5.9 acre Essence Properties project in the 20200 block of 72B and 73A Avenues to build 102 townhouses and 75 apartment units
• A 5.6 acre Vesta Properties development planned for 82nd Avenue and 200th Street with 56 townhouses and 186 apartments.
If all four projects are approved, they would see Langley add 1,349 condos and 158 townhouses.
Council voted to approve first and second readings of all four projects. Public hearings will be scheduled at a future meeting or meetings for public comment.
Councillors discussed the large Vesta Properties project that included both condos and commercial space, with Councillor Kim Richter asking why previous plans had been amended.
“We should not be taking away job space to create house space,” Richter said.
But other councillors were positive about the changes, with Coun. Bob Long noting the seven-storey office buildings now proposed for the site would create about the same square footage as previous plans.
