The kickoff to South Cariboo Health Foundation (SCHF) 2011/12 fundraising campaign, Pointing the Way, at Save-On-Foods on April 7 was a great success, says SCHF public relations and fundraising co-ordinator M-J Cousins.

The event started at 10 a.m. and ended 3 p.m. with the foundation offering hotdogs, the book One Day at a Time, the story of Ainsworth Lumber by Paul Luft, a basket draw, and information on the SCHF.

“SCHF raised more than $1,100, which included the book sales, and donations for the basket,” says Cousins.

She adds Save-on-Foods donated a beautiful Easter basket.

“First thing in the morning, Millie Halcro donated 127,000 points to our campaign.”

Cousins notes people can donate Save-on-More points to the SCHF, and for the next three months, Save-On-Foods will match the value of the total points donated thereby doubling shoppers’ contributions to the foundation.

“I had a great time, we all had fun. We raised some cash and equally important, raised awareness of the foundation.”

She adds a full slate of SCHF board members came out to help.

“One thing I noticed was the fact that all of the money stays in 100 Mile for our hospital was an important point for many contributors.”

Cousins clarifies that all of the funds go the South Cariboo Health Centre, including the 100 Mile District General Hospital, Fischer Place and Mill Site Lodge.

The winner of the Easter basket was Georgina Lisoway from Lac la Hache and her grandchildren, Marcus and Lily. Cousins adds she was told they enjoyed all the Easter treats very much.
