Langley MLA Mary Polak has launched a social media campaign to engage Langley residents and get them involved in the work she does for the community.
“I am thrilled to connect with my constituents in another way,” Polak said.
On Sept. 12, Polak launched her first biweekly 30-minute Twitter Townhalls to hear from her constituents on topics that are important to them. The Twitter town hall was one of the first held by a sitting member of the B.C. Legislature.
“Social media opens up our ability as MLAs to engage the public and hear what they have to say,” Polak said,.
Her next Twitter town hall, on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., will focus on the topic of job creation.

Those who join in the town hall are eligible to participate in a contest; followers and friends can submit a photo of their favourite Langley place or activity with a one sentence description to Polak’s Twitter or Facebook pages. The deadline is Sept. 30, and entries are eligible to win gift cards to local businesses.
“Twitter opens up our ability as MLAs to communicate directly with the public and have open discussions on public policy matters,” she said.
“I encourage all Langley residents to join the conversation and participate in my next Twitter town hall,” Polak said, adding that the sessions are part of her effort to get to know constituents better “so we can continue to make Langley the best place to live, work and play.”
