Hundreds turned out in Peachland to watch these brave souls take to the chilly water of Okanagan Lake in Peachland's annual Polar Bear Dip.

Polar Bear dippers hit the water in Peachland and Kelowna Jan. 1

While the Peachland dip has been going strong for many years, the Kelowna event held its inaugural "swim" Thursday.

Anyone looking for a chilly start to 2015 in the Central Okanagan had a few choices Jan. 1, including Polar Bear dips into the cold water of Okanagan Lake in both Kelowna and Peachland.

Hundreds turned out to  take to the lake in Peachland on Thursday, while more swimmers, and warmly dressed spectators watching them, turned out at Tugboat Bay in Kelowna’s Waterfront Park.

Kelowna's inaugural Polar Bear Dip Jan 1, 2015While the Peachland dip has become an annual tradition for many over the years and regularly attracts a few hundred “swimmers”, the Kelowna event is new and held it’s inaugural immersion into the chilly waters of the the lake this year to help raise money for CRIS Adaptive Adventures, a charity that aims to allow people with cognitive and physical disabilities experience the great outdoors.
