While the community of Oliver saw a decrease in police activity in 2020, Osoyoos RCMP answered more calls for service than a year earlier.
The Oliver detachment received 3,108 calls for service in 2020, a drop of 16 per cent from 2019. In Osoyoos, police received 2,916 calls for service, up 10 per cent from a year earlier.

Oliver’s violent crime statistics fell by 23 per cent. The only violent crime category where statistics increased was domestic violence, where 39 cases were reported over the year. This is an increase of 39 per cent from the year earlier.
Property crimes fell by 22 per cent, with decreases in almost all categories.
Business break and enters decreased by 58 per cent, residential break and enters decreased by 57 per cent and other break and enters fell by 63 per cent.
The only increases in property crime statistics in Oliver were in mischief to property, shoplifting and fraud.
There were 61 cases of fraud in the community, an increase of 30 per cent from 2019.
In Osoyoos, violent crime statistics rose by 33 per cent, with incidents of uttering threats rising by 58 per cent.
In the fourth quarter of the year, the number of domestic violence incidents in Osoyoos increased significantly, from one in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 10 in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Property crimes fell in most categories in Osoyoos, but shoplifting incidents were significantly higher. There were 19 cases of shoplifting in 2020, an increase of 171 per cent from 2019 statistics.
Fraud incidents also increased, rising by 23 per cent from the 2019 statistics.
