A 45-year-old Bowser man is being held in police custody after being located near a stolen vehicle Sunday morning, according to Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
Police received a report of a stolen 1991 Ford F250 at 8 a.m.
“Being a tight-knit community, word got out fast,” said Foreman. “People were calling in sightings of that vehicle.”
At 8.37 a.m. police received a tip that the vehicle was traveling up Crosley Road, a dead end street in Bowser.
“We got to the area quickly as we were already there and tracked down an individual who is very well known to the police,” said Foreman. “He was very close to the vehicle.”
s to see if there is a link to the suspect.
This comes after a string of small scale vehicle and property thefts in Bowser.
Foreman called the incidents “suspicious in nature” but couldn’t confirm at this point if they are linked.
“Without solid evidence we can’t jump to conclusions,” he said. “But it’s normally a quiet place and then all of a sudden we see a bunch of property offenses at the same time in the same area.”
Foreman said police are recommending charges against the individual of theft of a motor vehicle under $5,000, breach of probation, driving while prohibited and possession of stolen property.
