Toking and driving leads to suspension
Oak Bay Police were conducting an impaired driving roadblock on Foul Bay Road by Camosun College Oct. 30, when at about 9:40 p.m. police checked a car that had an odour of burned cannabis inside. The driver admitted having consumed marijuana and turned over a small amount in a baggie to police. The driver was given a Standard Field Sobriety Test and subsequently failed. He was issued with a 24-hour driving suspension and his car was impounded for 24 hours.
No treats for two Halloween drivers
Oak Bay police recorded a relatively quiet Halloween, however several driving issues were noted over the weekend.
An Oak Bay Police officer stopped a speeding motorist at 1:20 a.m. Oct. 31 on Cadboro Bay Road and noted an odour of liquor on the breath of the male driver. The driver blew a “warn” on the roadside screening device and received a three-day Immediate Roadside Suspension.

With a novice class 7 driver’s licence, the driver was in violation of his conditions by having four passengers in the vehicle. When police noticed an odour of liquor on his breath, a roadside breath test led to a “warn” reading and the driver received an immediate three-day roadside suspension.
His car was also impounded for three days and due to other unrelated driving matters, the driver also received a five-month driving prohibition.
Novice driver nets 24-hour suspension
Oak Bay Police stopped a car on Foul Bay Rd for a traffic violation Nov. 1, however when the officer noticed the odour of liquor on the novice class 7 driver’s breath, he was issued a roadside breath test. The driver subsequently received a 24-hour driving suspension.
