Police Briefs: mysterious death, stolen truck, keep officers busy

A summary of police action in Oak Bay, Feb. 4 to Feb. 10

A sudden death, stolen truck, and a residential break and enter showcase a busy week for Oak Bay police officers.

On Feb. 6 police responded to a call at the Turkey Head Parking lot. A male was found unresponsive in his vehicle, and efforts by police, fire and paramedics to revive him were not successful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the matter is still under investigation.

On Feb. 5 police were called to the 2600 block of Dorset Road for a reported break and enter of a residence. Jewelry and other valuables were reported stolen and the investigation is ongoing.

On Feb. 7 police were called to the 2200 block of Woodlawn Crescent for a report of a stolen truck. Someone located the spare key left inside the unlocked 2007 Toyota Highlander and drove off. The matter is still under investigation.

On Feb. 9, police were called to the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling club in Carnarvon Park, where police say someone threw a hammer at one of the club’s windows, smashing the outer pane. Police say it doesn’t look like anyone entered the building.

There were more reports of thefts from vehicles last week too. A set of prescription glasses was taken from a car along the 800 block of Oliver Street, which was reported to police on Feb. 4. On Feb. 5 police received three more reports of thefts from autos. Overnight, Alberta health and Social Insurance Number cards were taken from a car along the 700 block of Island Road, a 24-pack of toilet paper was stolen from a car in the 900 block of Byng Street, and some change was swiped from another car on the 900 block of Monterey Avenue
