Creston RCMP responded to 79 calls for service, several for domestic disputes, from April 17-24, Staff Sgt. Ryan Currie said on Tuesday.
April 17
• When police investigated a complaint about gunshots in Wynndel they determined that no law had been broken, but the complainant was concerned that shooting in rural areas is legal.
• Patrolling officers made a good catch when a person known to have a suspended licence was driving. The vehicle was stopped and the driver had been drinking. Charges of driving while suspended and impaired driving are pending.
April 18
• A suspect was arrested following a domestic violence incident and charges are pending.
• A child was frightened by seeing two occupants of a white van in Riondel wearing Homer Simpson masks. They did not say or do anything to the child.
• Police determined that a person entering Canada at Kingsgate who was reported to have consumed elicit drugs was not impaired. He was allowed to enter Canada and continue on his way.
April 19
• Another complaint from Wynndel took police to investigate a target shooter, who was behaving in a safe manner.
• Police diffused a neighbours’ dispute in Wynndel when a person trimming trees was threatened with being bear sprayed.
• When police responded to a report of domestic assault in Erickson they found the suspect in a vehicle. He had been drinking, and a driving suspension and assault charges are pending.
April 20
• Police are investigating a reported domestic assault in town.
• A complaint was received about a child throwing litter from a vehicle on Northwest Boulevard.
• Police continue their attempt to identify a suspect after a vehicle tore up the grounds at the old Wynndel Elementary School.
• No criminal act had occurred was the attending officer’s conclusion after a neighbours’ dispute.
• When police investigated a report about a person in mental distress no concerns were noted.
• Four different disturbance complaints involving alcohol were responded to.
April 21
• Police were called to assist with a domestic situation in which there had been a suspected breach of no contact conditions.
April 22
• An investigation revealed that no domestic assault had taken place at a Creston residence but both parties were spoken to about their behaviour.
• A male and female who thought that climbing the Kootenay River Bridge on the Creston Flats “would be interesting” drew the attention of drivers, who reported their concern to police.
April 23
• The owner of a property with offensive messages painted on the building exterior was spoken to. He has agreed to paint over the messages.
• Two complaints about aggressive dogs were received, one in Erickson and the other in Creston.
• Stopping a vehicle for speeding in town revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol. He was given a three-day driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded
