RCMP officers are now evacuating homes near the residence in Thornhill which they’ve had surrounded since mid-morning.
Officers had told the residents of Mountainview Ave. in Thornhill to stay inside and lock their doors, and now as they evacuate they are saying there is a gas leak.
And crews from Pacific Northern Gas, the local natural gas utility, have arrived to dig up a gas line in the immediate vicinity.
Mountainview is a short dead-end street among a collection of streets off to the right of Old Lakelse Lake Drive near the hill where Old Lakelse Drive climbs to upper Thornhill.
Police have been warning people to stay away from Mountainview, Crescentview, Sande and Toynbee.
Details are scarce but police say this morning’s incident is related to an ongoing investigation.
