RCMP Serious Crime investigators have since positively identified the previously unknown suspect in this matter and are in consultation with the Crown prosecutor’s office.

Police have identified a 25-year-old man as the suspect involved in the death of 30-year-old Zachary Gaudette of Ontario. The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit continues to work closely with the victim’s family during this most difficult time and the BC Coroner’s Service in this investigation.

“The suspect and victim had been engaged in an altercation that occurred out front of a Cactus Club restaurant in Kelowna on Feb. 17,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey, in a press release.  “The victim, who was rushed to hospital in serious condition, later succumbed to his injuries on Feb 19.”

At this time the RCMP are awaiting the pending results of the autopsy conducted on Zachary Gaudette’s body.

The RCMP remain in close consultation with Crown Counsel. As such, once all the evidence has been presented, Crown Counsel will be in a position to be able to make an informed decision with respect to their consideration for charge approval.

No further updated information is available at this time.
