A Greenwood driver recently charged with speeding had her car impounded for a week, according to Midway RCMP.

Cpl. Phil Peters said a car was headed towards Beaverdell on Highway 33 at nearly 150 km an hour, shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The speed limit on that section of road is 90 km an hour, he said.

A 30-year-old woman was given nearly $500 in tickets under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act: one for excessive speeding, the second for failing to provide a valid driver’s licence at the scene.

“You get a $368 ticket and your vehicle is impounded whenever you’re pulled over doing more than 40 km an hour above the posted speed limit,” Peters explained.

The driver is licenced, but couldn’t produce her licence when she was pulled over. Peters said that alone earned her an $81 fine.

Peters said speeding is an issue on Highway 33, between the towns of Westbridge and Beaverdell.

“Drivers think we’re a little ways away,” said Peters. “But we’re going to be stepping up road enforcement in that area.”

The driver has no previous speeding tickets, according to Peters.
