Police have one man in custody in connection with a break and enter and, later, the stabbing of a 31-year-old man Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Blayne Char, 20, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 6 after a lengthy investigation which included members from General Duty, Cariboo Crime Reduction Unit, General Investigations section and the Police Dog Service.
RCMP Const. Andrew Waters said the evening, which ended in the victim being rushed to hospital by nearby residents in a section of Third Avenue North, began at approximately 3 a.m. when the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter to the Surplus Herby’s store.
“General duty members, with the assistance of the police dog service, attended but were not successful in locating anyone still inside the store. Investigation determined an individual broke into the store and stole a number of knives,” Waters said.
Later that same day, at approximately 9:35 p.m., the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a report of a male suffering from a stab wound in the 1100 block of 3rd Avenue North.
Waters said when officers arrived on scene the male victim had already been transported to hospital by nearby residents. A section of Third Avenue North was blocked off while police began investigating the assault.
“Initial police investigation determined that a group of males had been fighting when another male rushed in and stabbed the victim. The victim remains in hospital in stable condition.”
Char remains in custody with his next court appearance scheduled in Provincial Court on September 12, 2018.
Char is facing three charges; break and enter with intent, aggravated assault and breaching a recognizance.
