A plainclothes cop ended up in surgery after he was assaulted while arresting a man, authorities said.
The male officer, a three-year veteran of the Victoria Police Department, was conducting a drug investigation with a partner in the 800-block of Pandora Ave. Wednesday (Aug. 3) at noon, when they watched a suspect do a drug transaction.
When the pair moved in to arrest the suspect, one sustained injuries to his face and leg, said Const. Mike Russell, VicPD spokesperson.
The leg required surgery at Victoria General Hospital, but cops refused to give details of the injuries.
Meanwhile, people nearby who saw the incident helped the other officer arrest the suspect – James Carte, 21-year-old Saanich man. About $800 worth of crack-cocaine, some marijuana and $800 in cash were seized. The crack-cocaine was packaged as spitballs, meaning it could be swallowed if necessary.
Carte was arrested charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking.
