100 Mile House RCMP responded to 78 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:
Vision restricted
On Oct. 3, RCMP were called to a report of a motor vehicle incident (MVI) between a grader and a vehicle on Ryall Road.
A grader was working on the road when an oncoming vehicle hit the grader head on. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
It is believed the driver did not see the grader due to sun glare and fog while travelling on the uphill portion of the roadway.
Roadside check
On Oct. 2, police conducted a roadside check on Mahood Lake Road near Deka Lake and several vehicles were checked.
One driver was issued a 24-hour suspension from driving for being under the influence of drugs. Another driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days after failing roadside breath tests for alcohol impairment.
Several violation tickets were issued for other offences under the Motor Vehicle Act.
IRP issued
On Sept. 30, RCMP were advised of a vehicle that had been involved in a minor collision outside of Clinton during which the offending driver failed to remain at the scene.
The vehicle was located near 100 Mile House and it was stopped.
The driver showed symptoms of alcohol impairment. A roadside breath test was conducted which resulted in a fail reading.
The Lower Mainland man was issued a 90-day IRP and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Drugged driving
On Sept. 29, police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Birch Avenue for speeding.
The driver showed symptoms of drug impairment and admitted to drug use earlier. The driver was detained and submitted to field sobriety test and drug recognition expert tests, which the driver failed. The driver, a 43-year-old 100 Mile House man was also found to be prohibited from driving and on court conditions not to consume drugs. He was later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
Charges of impaired driving, driving while prohibited, and breach of an undertaking will be proposed to the Crown.
Excessive speeding
On Sept. 28, Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services members were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 97.
A vehicle was observed heading south bound at a speed of 173 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped. The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed ($483) and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.
Container break-in
On Sept. 27, RCMP were called to a report of a break-and-enter to a storage container located on a property on the 2000 block of the Maze Forbes Forest Service Rd.
Between Sept. 11 and 18, it is believed the container was entered and assorted tools and a wheelbarrow were taken.
Mailboxes busted
On Sept. 26, police were called to a report of mischief that had occurred to Canada Post mailboxes on the 6000 block of Stokes and Keane roads.
It is believed that sometime over the weekend the mailboxes were damaged and broken into. It is not known if any mail was taken.
