Looking for hit and run witness
Dec. 16 police received a complaint of a hit and run overnight in Cache Creek. A green 1995 Pontiac Sunfire received damage to its front quarter panel while sitting in the parking lot of Canyon Heights apartments on Stage Rd. Anyone witnessing the accident or having information about it are asked to phone RCMP at 453-2216.
Speeding along
Dec. 16 at 6 pm Traffic Services members conducting radar enforcement on Hwy 1 near Savona stopped a 2001 Sierra pickup after it went through a 90 kph zone at 140 kph. The driver, a 29 year old Savona man, was given a ticket for excessive speed and his truck was impounded for seven days.
No wheels for the holidays
Dec. 18 at 3 pm Traffic Services members stopped a 2009 Mazda CX9 in Cache Creek after recording its speed as 114 kph in the 50 kph zone. The Richmond driver was given a ticket for excessive speed and his car was impunded for seven days.
Freight truck burns on Hwy 1
Dec. 19 at 10:30 am police were called to a truck on fire on Hwy 1 about eight km east of Cache Creek. The truck and trailer were fully engulfed by the time police arrived. The driver, a 32 year old Calgary man, had tried to unhitch the truck from the trailer but could not. He was not injured. There was no fire protection in the area so police monitored the 2006 Freightliner truck while it burned. The highway was closed for amost two hours. Malfunctioning brakes are suspected as the cause.
Gasoline stolen from residence
Dec. 19 police received a complaint that 100 Litres of gasoline, stored in red jugs, were stolen from the garage of a residence on Sunvalley Dr. in Cache Creek, some time between 7 pm and 8 am on the 18th. Anyone witnessing the crime or having knowledge of it is asked to phone the RCMP at 453-2216.
Quick off the mark
Dec. 19 at 6 pm police received a complaint of an erratic driver in the Cache Creek area. A blue van pulled up to the gas pumps at the PetroCan, but drove away without pumping any gas. But it also drove away with the pump still in the vehicle’s gas tank, causing about $150 damage. The vehicle was not located.
Need detailed descriptions
RCMP would like to thank members of the public for alerting them to possible impaired driver, but would like to point out that they need identifiable descriptions of the vehicles in question. If you are reporting a possible impaired, give a detailed description of the vehicle, a license plate if possible, or the driver’s name if known.
Tis the season
Dec. 20 police received a complaint of telephone fraud which turned out to be legitimate marketing company for the Royal Canadian Legion.
Beware of internet purchases
Dec. 20 a 46 year old Cache Creek man reported a incident of internet fraud when a purchaser sent a money draft for more than the amount of the purchase and asked the seller to cash it and refund the extra money. The man did not comply with the request, but reported it to the police.
Pickup truck catches fire
Dec. 20 at 6:30 pm police were asked by the Ashcroft Fire Dept. to attend a burning pickup on Barnes Lake Rd. The 2004 Ford F150 burned to the ground. The driver, a 30 year old Ashcroft man, was not injured. He reported hearing a noise under the hood, followed by snoke and flames. It was believed to have been started by a mechanical problem.
