Wii went missing
Feb. 22 the Village of Cache Creek reported that some of their Wii equipment and games had gone missing from the Cache Creek Community Hall. The equipment, valued at about $500, was being stored in a tote bag in a communal area with other tote bags, and it’s hoped that the bag was picked up by mistake.
Blame it on the dog
Feb. 22 at 5 pm police attended a single vehicle accident on Hwy 97C by Barnes Lake Rd. The 46 year old man advised that he was distracted by his dog in the passenger seat of their Miata when the car hit the shoulder and the two passenger side wheels went over an embankment. The vehicle was towed back onto the road. Neither man nor dog were injured.
For a good time
Feb. 24 a 62 year old Cache Creek man complained that he was receiving unsolicited phone calls and texts from people looking for sex and/or drugs. Police determined that the man’s cell phone number had been posted in a public area as a prank.
Car stolen
Feb. 24 police received a report of the theft of a vehicle from a rural property in Walhachin. The grey 2001 four-door Saturn SL with expired plates 788 LFP disappeared that afternoon. It was unlocked and the keys were inside the vehicle.
Hit and run
Feb. 25 at 9:14 pm police investigated a hit and run outside the Oasis Hotel. A 1986 red Pontiac Fiero was caught on surveillance video and located on March 1 parked at an Ashcroft residence. It was towed to an RCMP compound where members of an identification unit from Kamloops inspected it, comparing several broken pieces of plastic and glass left at the accident scene. The 2010 GMC pickup parked in front of the Oasis received moderate damage to the rear driver’s side corner. The force of the collision knocked the front wheels of the truck onto the cement curbing.
Hide and seek
Feb. 25 at 9:18 pm police attended a disturbance at a residence on Valleyview Rd. in Cache Creek where a distraught man was causing damage to his own residence. The 49 year old man had left the home in his car prior to police arrival. He was located on Stage Rd. and arrested for impaired driving. He received a 90 day driving prohibition and a 30 day vehicle impound.
As the crow flies
Feb. 26 at 12:19 pm police received a complaint from a resident on Cumming Blvd. who reported that people were removing parts of his fence in order to cut across his property. Police followed one fresh set of footprints to a nearby house and questioned a man who said he had used the shortcut, but denied removing any slats in the fence.
Wrong number
Feb. 26 at 7:21 pm police received a complaint from a Cache Creek woman who advised she had received several obscene text messages and an unknown photo. Her husband called the person from the Lower Mainland leaving the messages who advised that he had a wrong number. The messages have since stopped.
Intoxicated guests
Feb. 27 at 7:09 pm police attended a Hat Creek residence after a 31 year old woman living there texted a friend that there were intoxicated men in the house causing problems. They had been convinced to leave without incident by the time police arrived.
Watch those curves
Feb. 28 at 1:56 pm Lytton and Clinton RCMP responded to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 1 in Spences Bridge. The female driver who was seven months’ pregnant, advised that she had been driving through the curves, slid on the compact snow and left the road. She was uninjured and declined the ambulance.
Serious injury
March 1 at 2:30 pm Ashcroft Traffic Service members in the Lillooet area were called to a single vehicle accident about 16 km north of town. The 2002 Landrover was southbound on Hwy 99 when the 27 year old driver lost control on an icy corner and left the road, travelling for 70 meters down an embankment before it could stop. The driver and a 30 year old female passenger suffered minor scratches, but a 36 year old male passenger in the front seat was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with life-threatening injuries. All three were from Whistler. Police report that the vehicle had good winter tires on it and everyone was wearing their seatbelt.
Unsafe pass
March 2 at 7:19 am police attended a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 1 at the south end of Cache Creek where a pickup truck was passing a snow plough on the right. The plough had its blade down, and the CN truck struck the wing blade which was partially in the outside lane. The driver of the CN truck, a 20 year old Vinsula man, was issued a ticket for passing unsafely on the right.
Message in a baggie
March 2 at 9:38 am staff at the Ministry of Children and Families arrived at work to find that someone had left a full doggy bag hanging on the door with an unflattering note attached. Anyone with information on this is invited to call the RCMP at 453-2216.
Winter driving
March 2 at 10:20 am police attended a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 97C where a southbound 45 year old Cache Creek woman making a left hand turn lost control of her 2008 Pontiac sedan and collided with a truck and trailer passing in the outside lane. The truck received some minor damage and a flat tire. No one was injured and no charges were laid.
