Police Report – arguments and accidents

The weekly crime blotter from the Ashcroft RCMP Detachment

Cancellation fee

May 12 an Ashcroft woman reported an incident of fraud after failing to receive a full discount from a Time Share company after cancelling her trip. She told police that she booked the trip online for $1,400. She later cancelled the trip and was refunded all but $120 of the money she’d spent and was told that it was because she had cancelled after the cancellation deadline. The police advised her that it was not a criminal matter.

Hit the ditch

May 14 at 5 pm police attended a single vehicle accident on Hwy 1 just east of Cache Creek. A witness advised seeing the westbound vehicle pulling over to the side of the road and then entering the ditch. A nearby ambulance quickly stopped to administer aid, but the driver, a 66 year old Ashcroft man, was not injured, although  he did have some minor medical issues. He was given a ride home by a friend. The vehicle had to be towed.

Guns confiscated

May 15 at 7:30 pm police attended a residence on Tingley St. to enforce a Family Court Order forbidding the 54 year old man there from possessing firearms for the period outlined in the order. He was co-operative and turned over two long guns to the RCMP.

Assault in the workplace

May 16 at 12:30 pm police attended a physical altercation at Safety Mart after an employee reported that he had been shoved by a customer after a verbal exchange. The employee did not wish to proceed with charges. The 44 year old Ashcroft man was warned about his behaviour and told not to return to the store.

Fancy truck extras

May 16 at 12:30 pm police stopped a Ford F350 on Hwy 1 in Cache Creek because the tires extended well beyond the fenders and the headlights were tinted. Both are illegal in BC. The driver also had an N class license but there was no N displayed on the vehicle. He said it had fallen out of the window and got out of the truck to retrieve it. He opened the rear door and the officer noticed eight roman candles on the back seat, which are also illegal without a permit. The young man was informed of this and turned them over. The 20 year old Squamish man was issued a notice for a vehicle inspection in regards to the tires, headlights and anything else that might not be in compliance with BC standards.

Puppy rescued

May 16 at 5:30 pm a 30 year old Vancouver driver noticed a dog on Hwy 1 by the Hwy 97C turnoff and stopped to pick it up. He tried to locate the dog’s owner, with no luck, and had to continue on his way. He left the female german shepherd puppy with the RCMP, who handed it over to Ashcroft’s animal bylaw control officer.

No impaired drivers

May 16 members of the General Duty and Traffic Services combined their efforts to conduct check stops in the Ashcroft and Cache Creek are as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day. RCMP checked 25 vehicles near the bridge in Ashcroft between 10-11 pm, and 50 vehicles on Hwy 1 east of Cache Creek between 11-1:30 am. One driver was given a warning for having open liquor in their vehicle and two roadside sobriety tests were administered but were negative.

Won’t get a license

May 16 at 11:55 pm a westbound Chrysler Intrepid was stopped by Traffic Services at their check stop east of Cache Creek. The driver, a 59 year old Lillooet man, was unlicensed and the vehicle was not insured. He was issued tickets for driving without a license or insurance and served with an unlicensed driving prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Almost home

May 18 at 6 am police received two complaints about a male staggering up Stage Rd., falling and yelling. The 19 year old Cache Creek man was located, somewhat intoxicated and wearing only one shoe. He was given a ride the rest of the short distance home.

Heated argument

May 18 at 5 pm police responded to a 911 call that was ended abruptly from a residence in the Boston Flats trailer court. The 62 year old couple were having a loud argument after the female arrived home after several days away and the male would not let her back inside. She forced her way in and the argument continued. The matter is still under investigation. There was no indication of assault.
