Domestic assault
On June 23 at 12:55 a.m., RCMP responded to a call of a domestic assault on 72nd Ave. in Grand Forks.
“A female displayed signs that she had been hit across the face,” said Cpl. Richard Lanz. “As a result, her male partner was arrested and released on a promise to appear with conditions.”
Shoplifter at Home Hardware
On June 25 at 1:24 p.m., police responded to a call regarding a theft from Home Hardware in Grand Forks.
“A male entered the store and picked up a few items and walked out of the store without paying for the items,” said Lanz.
The cost of the goods stolen is not known at this time. Police are currently trying to locate the suspect in the matter using video footage obtained from the store, said Lanz.
Alcohol a factor in domestic dispute
On June 25 at 5:24 p.m., RCMP were called to a domestic assault which occurred on North Fork Road.
“As a result of the investigation a female was taken into custody and has been released on a promise to appear,” said Lanz. “As it appeared, the woman may have used a knife to cut her common-law husband.”
The cut was not serious and did not require medical attention. Lanz said that alcohol was a factor in the matter.
Inebriated male taken in
On June 25 at 9:40 p.m., RCMP were called to a report of an intoxicated male walking down Spraggett Road. “The male was staggering and walking into traffic and was almost hit by a vehicle,” said Lanz.
The male, a 59-year-old Grand Forks resident, was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. He was released the following morning.
Shoplifter caught
On June 27 at 1:18 p.m., police were called to Overwaitea to deal with a shoplifter.
“The shoplifter was apprehended,” said Lanz. “Overwaitea did not want to proceed with charges. The male was given a store ban.”
The shoplifter was an 81-year-old male from Grand Forks. The total amount of the theft was under $5.
Drunken dispute
On June 29 at 3:30 p.m., RCMP were called out to a disturbance at A&W in Grand Forks.
“A male and female were in the business and yelling and screaming at each other,” said Lanz. “The couple did calm down. When they left the restaurant, the male once again began yelling and screaming.”
The male, a 44-year-old Grand Forks resident, was then arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in a public place. “He was brought back to the detachment and was lodged in a cell,” said Lanz. “He was released the following morning.”
Structure fire considered arson
On June 30 at 3:52 a.m., police were called to an explosion structure fire on Darcy Road in Grand Forks. “As a result of the investigation so far it appears to be arson,” said Lanz. “At this time, the matter is being investigated.”
Fire investigators from Nelson have been called in to go over the scene. The structure was a shed.
Grand Forks RCMP received 76 calls in the Christina Lake, Grand Forks and Midway area.
