Bailey’s in the Village coffee shop in Qualicum Beach was broken into early Sunday morning.
According to the Oceanside RCMP, on April 14 at 3:57 a.m., a man broke into Bailey’s (670 Primrose St.) using a pry bar to break into the shop’s glass door.
The suspect, who was wearing a white jumpsuit, stole a quantity of change, said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
The break in was not discovered until later in the morning when staff arrived.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police also reported on Monday that staff from a Parksville hardware store attended work to discover they had been broken into overnight. For some reason, the alarm at Albertsons Home Centre had failed to sound or alert staff.
Nearly $10,000 worth of tools were taken by the thieves. The majority of tools were Makita brand. Makita power tools are unique in their teal blue colour.
If you have any information about this incident, please call the Oceanside RCMP at (250)248-6111 or report anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
On April 9, an alert store owner in Parksville was walking downtown and recognized a man who had used a fraudulent credit card in his business months prior.
The store owner followed the suspect at a safe distance and called police. Police attended and arrested 32-year-old Errington man, William Robert Hall, who was wanted on outstanding warrants.
Hall was taken to court and has been remanded in custody until April 23 when he makes his next appearance. Hall is accused of a multi-jurisdictional crime spree in which he has produced and used fake credit cards and forged identification documents at several Island businesses.
Police said the business owner did everything right, did not intervene and called 911 right away.
