Anti-gang police claim they found a loaded gun in a motorist’s vehicle after stopping him for speeding in Surrey last Friday night in Whalley.

It happened in the area of 132nd Street and 104th Avenue, as officers from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit’s Gang Enforcement Team was conducting routine patrols in the neighbourhood.

Sergeant Brenda Winpenny said officers found a .40-calibre gun and magazine with ammo, as well as a ski mask and gloves, in the centre console of the black Acura TL after it was stopped for speeding.

Winpenny said Gurkamal Singh Khakh, 19, of Surrey is charged with one count of failing to comply with a court order, two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence and/or registration, two counts of possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number, two counts of possession of a loaded or unloaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and one count of occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present.

Khakh is expected to appear in Surrey provincial court on Wednesday afternoon, May 10.
