SURREY — Police believe alcohol was a factor in a series of incidents that left a car with a crushed roof, a missing tire and sparks flying from the vehicle as the driver attempted to flee.
Police received calls reporting a crash at 60th Avenue and King George Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Callers told Surrey RCMP that the driver of a dark coloured Chrysler Sedan hit a pole, knocking it over and crushing the roof of the vehicle.
But that apparently didn’t stop the driver, who allegedly proceeded to drive away, crash into another vehicle before speeding away eastbound on 60th Avenue eastbound. Witnesses say the car was missing a front tire and shooting sparks as it drove.
Surrey RCMP later located the vehicle – using tips from citizens and following “marks and debris” on the road – in an alley near the intersection of 138A Street and 60th Avenue and the driver was taken into custody.
The incidents are still under investigation and Surrey RCMP ask anyone with information to call 604-599-0502.
