Authorities are releasing few details more than two weeks after a fatal stabbing in Duncan.

The BC Coroners’ Office is involved in the investigation into the death of the 44-year-old man in a residence in Duncan in the early-morning hours of Sept. 14 and acknowledged in an email this week that the case is a “likely homicide”.

But the coroners’ office said all comments to the public on the incident must come from the RCMP.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP would only confirm that an investigation into the incident is “ongoing”, and released no further details at this time.

Officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment were called to a home at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Sept. 14 after a report that a man had been stabbed.

Police found the victim suffering from several stab wounds to the upper body.

The man was transported to the Cowichan District Hospital in serious condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

A 46-year-old Duncan man who was in the house when the police arrived was taken into police custody.

No charges have yet been laid and the name of the victim and the man taken into custody have not been released.

RCMP said at the time the incident didn’t appear to be a random and the victim is a former Island resident known to the suspect.
