B.C.’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO), has concluded an investigation into an incident at the end of July involving the death of an elderly woman in Penticton.
Penticton RCMP responded to a request for assistance on July 30 around 8 p.m. from neighbours who were concerned about the behaviour of an elderly woman who lived nearby.
Officers attended the home and spoke to the woman, who declined to go to the hospital. The officers then departed, according to a release from the IIO.
The following day at approximately 11 a.m., a neighbour found the elderly woman deceased in her home.
An autopsy found that the woman died of natural causes.
After reviewing statements from independent witnesses, health records and the autopsy report, the IIO’S chief civilian director determined that the woman’s death was not a result of actions or inaction by the Penticton RCMP.
The investigation is now concluded.
