Police officers will be out and about over the Canada Day and Sidney Days long weekend.
Corporal Chris Manseau of the Sidney North Saanich RCMP says officers will increase their patrols “in an effort to be more visible for all revellers.”
“This has a two-fold reason,” he explained. “First off, it increases visibility and, in theory, keeps those members of the public who cause issues, to tone down their behaviours.”
Manseau said the second reason is that higher visibility makes it easier for people to approach the officers, should they have immediate problems. It’s also a chance to interact with their local RCMP members.
“People should be expecting the police to be patrolling bus stops, ensuring all passengers are behaving before they head downtown to Victoria festivities,” he added, “and once they return later on in the day.”
There will be additional officers on foot, at high traffic locations and conducting road checks throughout the Canada Day long weekend.
