Polls closing soon in Nanaimo-Ladysmith byelection

Voting takes place today, May 6, from 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.

Tonight, Nanaimo-Ladysmith will find out who it has elected as the riding’s next MP.

Polls opened at 8:30 a.m. today, May 6, in a federal byelection, and will remain open until 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Candidates on the ballot include Bob Chamberlin, NDP; Jennifer Clarke, People’s Party of Canada; Michelle Corfield, Liberals; John Hirst, Conservatives; Paul Manly, Green Party; and Brian Marlatt, Progressive Canadian Party. Jakob Letkemann is on the ballot but the National Citizens Alliance has announced that he no longer represents that party.

The Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding became vacant when Sheila Malcolmson resigned to successfully run for Nanaimo MLA.

Any Canadian citizens at least 18 years old are eligible to vote in today’s federal byelection, as long as they have lived in the riding since March 27. People can find their voting place on their voter information cards. For information about where to vote and what identification to bring, visit http://elections.ca or call 1-800-463-6868.
