PORT HARDY – A woman died in a fire that destroyed a mobile home on Hunt Street early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to 5995 Hunt Street about 6:00 a.m. They were joined by police and paramedics shortly afterward.
Three people were in the home at the time of the fire, said RCMP Staff Sgt. Anna Marie Mallard. Two men were taken to hospital. One is in stable condition awaiting transport to hospital down Island.
The other was treated and released, said Mallard.
The body of the third person, an elderly woman, was found and removed from the charred home later in the afternoon after firefighters had cooled the blaze. The names of the dead woman and the men have not been released, pending notification of next of kin, however it is believed the three people are related.
Port McNeill emergency services assisted Port Hardy in battling the blaze and assisting the injured.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, said Mallard. An autopsy is scheduled for later in the week.
