Residents in a south-end area of Nanaimo, without power since about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, are expected to be back online by mid-morning.
According to a social media post, Nanaimo Fire Rescue said crews were on scene at Bruce Avenue, between Pine and Foster streets, due to a downed tree and power lines. Lines between Foster and Sheppard Avenue and Park Avenue, near Deering Street were also down.
“We’ve had some strong winds there earlier this morning and it looks like it’s continuing through the day here … [the winds] are brisk, but there’s always a chance of a branch or a tree coming down on a wire,” said Brad Wood, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief of operations.
B.C. Hydro said crews are at the scene and power is estimated to be restored by 11:30 a.m. Saturday – 938 customers are affected.
