Efforts are underway to improve access to liquor sales at Predator Ridge Resort.
The City of Vernon supports Predator Ridge’s application to the B.C. Liquor Board for a rural agency store license.
“We are about 13 kilometres from the city with no retail services between us and downtown,” said Brad Pelletier, Predator Ridge vice-president, in a letter to the city.
“We want to encourage guests, residents and Sparkling Hill guests to stay on site versus having to drive 30 kilometres to and from to access a government liquor store.”
City staff recommended that council provide a letter of support to Predator Ridge.
“It reduces traffic volumes (into Vernon),” said Will Pearce, chief administrative officer, of a rural liquor store.
Seniors apartments proposed
The approval process for a 150-unit seniors apartment complex is moving ahead.
Vernon council has supported an application to rezone lots on Rimer and Lefoy roads from residential single to low-rise apartment residential.
“There are several of these projects in Kelowna, West Kelowna and Penticton,” said Dale Rintoul, city planner.
A public hearing for the rezoning bylaw will be held Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
Heritage home change
The owner of a Vernon heritage home wants to change the commercial activities that occur there.
The City of Vernon has received an application to delete gift shop and tea room as permitted uses at 3001 25th Street and add health services so acupuncture can occur there.
While some councillors were concerned about the potential hours of operation running daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., others stated that such hours would facilitate services to clients who have shift work.
“We have a business that wants to try and make a go of it,” said Coun. Scott Anderson.
There will be a public hearing for the proposed bylaw change Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
