A pregnant woman is safe and in good health after her home was gutted by fire April 2 in Terrace.
“She got out of the house fast enough that we believe she hadn’t got enough smoke,” says deputy fire chief Dave Jephson. “She went to the hospital just to be cautionary and she’s okay.”
Emergency crews attended the house fire on Cedar Crescent approximately 10 a.m. and remained on scene until 2:30 p.m.
The cause of fire is now under investigation by an insurance company.
It is unconfirmed whether the fire began in the garage, as neighbours told the Terrace Standard, but Jephson says they are leaning toward that possibility.

Next-door neighbour Tyler Wilson says he was returning home when he saw the smoke coming from the house.
“There’s two people that live there and the wife was inside,” says Wilson. “We ran in and told her to get out right away… I think she was coming out of the shower, I’m not sure.”
Jephson says the house is completely gutted, but once the fire was under control — firefighters entered the structure to salvage whatever they could.
“The fire was still burning in the attic but we had the opportunity to try to prevent further damage from water and debris collapsing,” he says. “The decision was made by the crew to start bringing out valuables that we could try to save for the owner.”
The items included a leather sofa, a baby carrier and a family portrait.
Members of the public are asked to phone the fire department at 250-638-4734 if they’ve witnessed anything related to the house fire.
