It’s been a few years in the making but a prescribed burn is slated to take place later this year in the Crater Mountain area.
In total 680-hectares is expected to be burned in several phases. The first phase will be 192 hectares in size.

The prescribed burns are part of a partnership between the BC Wildfire Service and the Lower Similkameen Indian Band.

“The project is intended to provide a level of community protection from wildfire, restore the ecosystem, including critical bighorn sheep habitat, and enhance Indigenous cultural values in the area,” a release stated.
Project managers’ will be on-hand at the open house on Thurs., Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Details: Doors will open at 6 p.m. with an informational presentation at 6:30 p.m. A question and answer period will follow. Members of the project team will be available for discussion until 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
