Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert has been closed in both directions following a major vehicle accident.
Terrace RCMP report that Highway 16 West is closed to all traffic because of a two vehicle accident near a railroad crossing near the 37 mile mark.
Emergency personnel are on scene, including firefighters who were called to extricate at least one person from a vehicle, and the coroner has been called out, say early reports.
Early reports also indicate the accident was between a pickup and gravel truck.
DriveBC indicates the crash is about 50 km west of Terrace and that no detour is available.
The next update about the highway closure is set for 6 p.m. from DriveBC.
No time has been given as to when the highway will reopen to traffic.
The Northern View will update when details become available.
