Princeton man found dead in Similkameen River

B.C. Coroners Service confirmed a man found dead in the Similkameen River is Thomas Tomusiak of Princeton.

B.C. Coroners Service confirmed a man found dead in the Similkameen River is Thomas Tomusiak of Princeton.

The 67-year-old’s body found on a sandbar in the river on July 2. Tomusiak had been observed walking away from a family gathering at a community recreation facility about 10 metres from the river in Princeton on the afternoon of July 1.

RCMP said when the gathering ended he could not be found and was reported missing by family members.

Princeton RCMP, with assistance from local search and rescue, Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services, commenced a search of the surrounding area but Tomusiak was not located. The search was called off due to darkness.

The following morning RCMP helicopter personnel spotted Tomusiak’s body on a sandbar about 11 kilometres downstream from where he was last seen.

The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
