The Princeton and District Museum on Vermilion Avenue is closed after water leaked through the roof and damaged the structure.
“As far as archives or any displays there is no damage,” said Kim Maynard, museum president. “There is no damage to any museum property. It’s just the building.”
The roof leaked onto the museum’s fossil area after a heavy rainfall, said Maynard.
“There was clearly something wrong with it. We had had a small leak prior but we thought it was all fixed up. Obviously this downpour caused too much flow for whatever reason.”
The museum building is owned by the municipality.
“The town was very good about it. They had a restoration crew in there immediately,” said Maynard.
There is no estimate yet on how much the repairs will cost or when the museum will reopen.
“It looks like it’s gong to be awhile because there is a fair bit of drywall work to be done.”
Maynard said it’s unfortunate that the flooding occurred during the normally busy tourist season.
“There’s not much we can do about it. We look forward to getting it open as soon as humanly possible.”
