The owner of 431 College Rd. is seeking to demolish and replicate Qualicum College, as well as develop two multi-residential buildings on the property.

In this respect, Qualicum Beach town council will hold an online public hearing on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. for the proposed zoning amendment. If passed, the current zoning bylaw would be amended to allow for a 62-unit multi-residential development on the otherwise 40-unit maximum property. According to a release from the town, the proposal encompasses three buildings; building A; building B; and the demolition and replication of the Qualicum College. Building A will have 14 units, building B will have 22 units, and the Qualicum College will have 10 units. The existing strata building, building C, has 16 units.

In the proposal, the Qualicum College structure will be torn down and replicated from the perspective of College Road. The north side (water side) of the new Qualicum College building will vary from it’s original design with larger windows and decks.

“All persons who consider their interests to be affected by the proposed bylaws shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard,” read the town’s release.

Registration for the public hearing can be done through the town’s website, qualicumbeach.com, where a registration form can be filled out. After registering, information on how to join the meeting, including options to call-in using a telephone, will be sent out to participants.
