Cool, wet weather has prompted the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations to lift the ban on campfires for the weekend.
The ban has been lifted on campfires and open fires in outdoor stoves, but the chance to sing around the campfire will likely only last over the next few days before the prohibition is back in place due to forecast hot, dry conditions, which will likely result in the reintroduction of the campfire ban before the August long weekend.
The ban remains in effect within Nanaimo city limits. Capt. Ennis Mond, of Nanaimo Fire Rescue Fire Loss and Prevention Division, said Thursday the city had not followed suit with the province in lifting ban.
