Summer construction season in Nanaimo will include a $4-million project to upgrade two intersections along the old Island Highway.
The intersections of Highway 19A with Norwell Drive/Jingle Pot Road and Rutherford Road/Mostar Road will see new concrete barriers and raised concrete islands, according to press release from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
“This project is an investment in safety for Nanaimo residents and businesses and builds on the work completed last summer between Brechin Road and Norwell Drive,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Nanaimo MLA, in the release.
New bus pads will be constructed on Rutherford Road and culverts will be replaced near Long Lake.
Construction will take place at night time only in order to minimize traffic delays, the province says. Hub City Paving was awarded the contract for the project and work is expected to be complete in the fall.
