Finding a place to rent in Chilliwack is no easy task as prices rise, supply dwindles and more people are left in the lurch.
But landlords, too, are often put in a pinch by challenging tenants and the constant need to upgrade and repair.
There is a small team from Chilliwack Healthier Community (CHC) — a network of local partners focused on affordable/accessible housing, mental health, public safety and healthy lifestyles — working with local landlords to improve rental housing retention, and ultimately increase affordable housing stock.
Part of this ongoing work is CHC’s first “Chilliwack Landlords Information and Networking Lunch” on Wednesday, April 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chilliwack Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC) at Chilliwack Secondary School (46361 Yale Rd.).
Local service providers will gather to share information about how they can help tenants be better tenants and stay housed, rental income subsidies and programs landlords can access to improve their properties. There will also be presentations from local landlords who have successfully housed people in the long term, even those who live with mental illness. All this can add up to reduced turnover costs for current landlords, and potential new income to homeowners considering rental situations.
Emcee of the event is Corinne McCabe from Chilliwack Community Services.
All Chilliwack landlords and homeowners are invited to the lunch on April 26. There is no cost for this event and parking is available. Those interested can register at https://chclandlordlunchapr26.eventbrite.ca.
