Public plea for return of war mementos

Second World War medals stolen in break and enter

A Surrey resident is hoping a plea to the public will lead to the return of Second World War mementos which were stolen.

Sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in June 14, a home in the 6300 block of 126 Street was broken into. Several items were taken, including a framed collected to Second World War medals and keepsakes which belonged to the home owner’s deceased father. The collection has great sentimental value and cannot be replaced.

There were no witnesses to the theft.

“It’s hard to imagine the heartache felt by this victim at having some of the last few memories of his father being stolen,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann. “It defies logic as to why someone would even want to steal them given their value is purely sentimental.

“Hopefully the suspect will realize this and return the collection or someone will recognize it and help get it back to its rightful owner.”

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca
