If you are looking for some frightening fun to get you into the Halloween spirit be sure to take a stroll along Resort Drive in Parksville this week.
There will be more than 400 ghoulish and silly pumpkins on display along the Drive starting October 28.
The Resort Drive community has carved out an endless jack-o-lantern display for the 3rd annual Pumpkin Rush.
Until October 31 you can walk, stroll, or drive to see some of the most interesting jack-o-lanterns the Island has to offer.
After visiting each pumpkin patch you can stop in at any resort office to vote for your favourite and receive a treat.
The pumpkins will be illuminated from 6 to 8 p.m. each night.
A Parksville Business Pumpkin Challenge, with local businesses all competing for bragging rights as the best pumpkin carvers in town is sure to inspire more than your typical scary witch and long tooth Dracula.
Every Halloween the collection changes and the artistic creations never fail to delight.
Luba Plotnikoff the marketing and media relations manager at Tigh-Na-Mara said staff members at the resort are gunning for pumpkin carving bragging rights and they ordered 200 pumpkins for the event.
“Everyone tries to be creative and some are more talented than others. It is neat to see what they come up with,” she said.
She said the event is a great way to engage the community and bring families to Resort Drive.
“It is a safe location with sidewalks on both sides. It is ideal for strollers and a great way to enjoy some good old fashioned fun.”
She said starting at 5:30 p.m. they begin the job of lighting up all of the pumpkins and by 6 p.m. hundreds of glowing jack-o-lanterns illuminate the entire drive.
People are encouraged to check all of them out and then vote for the display they like the best.
Many of the resorts will be handing out treats and hot chocolate during the four-day pumpkin festival.
