Quality Foods customers have dug deep to help their fire-stricken neighbours across B.C., and the local grocery chain has matched their contributions to donate more than $10,000 to Canadian Red Cross of B.C. last week.
“Our customers had asked us to allow them to contribute Q-Points to help those affected by the ongoing fires in the B.C. Interior,” Quality Foods president Noel Hayward said in a written release. “We responded by offering the opportunity to donate points from their shop at the checkout.
“It’s encouraging to see the sense of community our shoppers have, so we matched their contributions for a total of $10,800.”
The funds go to the Canadian Red Cross of B.C. Fires Appeal. They will help provide immediate relief with items including cots, blankets, family reunification, and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, donations may also help re-entry and contribute to more long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness, the Red Cross stated in the release.
