Qualicum Beach council has approved a public hearing for the draft 2016-18 Official Community Plan next month.
The hearing, scheduled for May 7 at 7 p.m., will be held at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. Council and staff can receive comments in the lead up to the hearing as well.
Council also approved second reading of the draft at Monday’s meeting.
Prior to second reading, council spent about four hours over the course of April 9 and 10 discussing amendments to the draft document.

At the April 10 meeting, Coun. Anne Skipsey said she was concerned about the number of changes made. Coun. Barry Avis then suggested a list of all the amendments made to the document. On Monday (April 16), Avis said he was still waiting on the review of the changes made.
Coun. Bill Luchtmeijer said that while he wasn’t prepared to vote against second reading for the OCP, he said there are still some “huge deficits in this document.”
“The Official Community Plan is a visionary document and I see nothing but rules. I don’t see any opportunity for vision in the document.”
