The Town of Qualicum Beach council has challenged Parksville’s council… to a game of lawn bowling.
It’s not official yet but QB Mayor Brian Wiese said, “let’s do it.”
Wiese did get the the chance to challenge Parksville Mayor Ed Mayne face-to-face following the Regional District of Nanaimo’s committee of the whole meeting on April 9.
“We love to take up the challenge,” Mayne told Wiese.
“We are going to kick their butts,” said Wiese, who is a competitive curler. “I have been practicing.”
As well, Wiese pointed out that they have a ringer, Coun. Teunis Westbroek.
No date has been set yet but Wiese would like to hold the game in May. It would be a home and away derby with points from both games totalled to determine the winners.

Mayne said he has tried lawn bowling once but does not really play the game. That piece of information made Wiese feel that they already have a two-point advantage.
“We got a much younger council than these old guys.”
Both mayors, however, agreed that it’s going to be fun game.
