Qualicum Beach voters will found out shortly if they are headed back to the polls.
Town Coun. Adam Walker was an NDP candidate in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach riding for the recent provincial election. Following the tally of advanced and day-of voting on Saturday, he holds a lead over Michelle Stilwell of the B.C. Liberal Party. If that lead holds after the mail-in ballots are tallied after Nov. 6, the town could have a vacant seat for councillor.

A press release from the town said if Walker is elected as MLA and if he resigns as councillor, the town must appoint a local chief election officer for a byelection as soon as is practical.
Once appointed, the local chief election officer must set the date for general voting for a Saturday no later than 80 days after they were appointed by council.
There were 14,273 vote-by-mail packages issued for the Parksville-Qualicum riding.
