The annual Queen City Cruise is the latest Nelson event to be postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nelson Road Kings president Marcello Piro said in a statement Wednesday that festivities planned for what would have been the 18th year of the vintage car show in September have been scrapped.

“The planning of a car show that is of the calibre and size of the annual Nelson Queen City Cruise requires a great deal of work in the months leading up to the event …,” said Piro.

“Unfortunately, as a result of COVID-19, so many things have changed in a very short time requiring us to restrict the gathering of people in large groups until at least the end of summer. With this in mind, it was felt that the No. 1 priority would be to keep everyone in our community safe and healthy, and this year’s scheduled show for September 11th and 12th, 2020 would be cancelled.”

Piro added a pair of scholarships for high school students attending post-secondary institutions would still be honoured, and that the organization is still collecting membership fees for the year to pay for club insurance.
