Rallying For Diversity event set for June 27 in Mission

Organizer Ken Herar says rally is to support diversity in a positive way

A rally for diversity is being planned for Mission.

The event will takes place June 27 and organizer Ken Herar is hoping to attract a large crowd to support the event.

“I have been contacted by many citizens who want the community of Mission to do something in support of what is currently going on in the United States … to show our support for diversity, for Black Lives Matter and for All Lives Matter,” said Herar.

Called Rallying For Diversity, the event takes place on Saturday, June 27 along the Lougheed Highway, in front of Freshco. It begins at noon and runs until bout 5 p.m.

Participants can register ahead of time – by emailing cycling4diversity@gmail.com – so organizers have a rough idea of how many participants will be on hand. You can also call 778-241-9613 to register.

“We ask people to just discuss their intentions of this rally and, also, if they are bringing a sign with them, what the sign is going to say.”

People are also being asked to come and meet at the Freshco parking lot, at about 11:30 a.m., just to check in with organizers.

“We want to make sure we are rallying for all communities that face discrimination,” said Herar, adding that discrimination and racism is constantly evolving.

He also stressed that the rally is to support diversity in a positive way.

“We are pro-police. It’s a family-orientated event and we want to keep it on par with the issues we face. We want people to bring their children because we are shaping the minds of the future.”
