A vehicle headed down Village Way in Qualicum Beach ended up in the rough on Eaglecrest golf course after crossing the Island Highway, taking out a stop sign and side-swiping a tree early in the morning on Sept. 3.
Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the mishap and “the vehicle was a writeoff.”
The single-vehicle crash happened at approximately 1 a.m., with the Range Rover headed down Village Way driving fast, said Foreman.
“The driver could not make the turn (due to speed) and hit the concrete median, crossed all three lanes of traffic, took out a stop sign, side swiped a tree and landed on the golf course.”
Both the driver (a 25-year-old man from Coombs) and his passenger (a 21-year-old woman from Qualicum Beach) were uninjured.
A staff member at the golf course said that, to the best of his knowledge, there was minimal damage to the golf course, and only in the rough.
